New Family Orientation Saturday, April 18!

Though attendance by at least one parent is required for admission, we will not assume that everyone who attends is ready to “commit” to the program.  Our goal is to give parents an overview of the program, an understanding of the  Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophy  as well as the teaching methods used in a Charlotte Mason education. If it is possible for both parents to attend, we do recommend that.

We also require that both parents read Susan Schaeffer Macaulay’s book, For the Children’s Sake. Though it is not necessary to complete the book before coming to the seminar, you might find it helpful to do so.

Because of the length and format of the seminar, we ask that parents not bring children with them to this seminar.  (Young nursing infants are always welcome. If you have questions, please email).  We regret that we are not able to provide childcare for this.

We will meet from 2:30-4:30 at Abundant Life Church in Mt. Juliet Tn. Please email francisschaefferstudycenter@gmail.com to register.

2/21 ORIENTATION POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER

Though the temperatures are up to the balmy 30s,  I’m concerned that the roads may still have some hazardous spots.  Rather than risk it, the orientation meeting is postponed.  I’ll post the new date as soon as I can check the church calendar.

Thanks  so much for your interest and your patience!

Please feel free to email at francisschaefferstudycenter@gmail.com if you have questions or if you would like to set up a classroom visit in the meantime.

A Special Guest

wilbur visits 003

It had been a pretty ordinary day. With thirty minutes to go, the third and fourth graders had just settled into their reading of the fourth chapter of Charlotte’s Web, the one titled, Wilbur. In this chapter Wilbur’s plans for the day begin with going out in the yard and digging a new hole; it’s the chapter where loneliness overtakes him, where he longs for a friend who will play with him and enjoy his company.

And this is where their story was interupted with the news that we had a visitor in the parking lot.  And boy did we!

The Agriculture Class Pet, had escaped from his pen at the Middle School across the street and had wandered our way. Maybe he was looking for a place to dig that new hole. Maybe he was looking for someone who would enjoy his company. Whatever the case, this “Wilbur” soon found himself surrounded by new friends who were certainly delighted to see him!

Gives a whole new meaning to the term, living books!

Book Drive for CMET Library

We are in the process of building a library for CMET. If you have books sitting around your house that you would normally pack off to Goodwill, bring them with you Tuesday and leave them with us.  We’ll take them to McKay’s and trade them out for living books and CDs.  We made our first run last week with books donated by the folks at Abundant Life, traded them in, and came home with two boxes of great books.

This project will continue throughout the year.  As we accumulate enough books, we’ll make another run.  So you can bring books in all year long.

There are things that McKays will not take. (Follow this link for more information about that under “Are there items you won’t take.”)  What they don’t accept, we will be leaving with them.

Thanks for your help!
